- How does Nassau Community College comply with the Solomon Amendment?
-
Nassau Community College complies with the Solomon Amendment by releasing student recruiting information to military recruiters. Information will be released for military recruiting purposes only. Each of the 12 eligible units within the five branches of service may request and receive recruiting information once per each term or semester. The requests must be submitted in writing to the Office of the Registrar.
As the Department of Education has determined that the Solomon Amendment supersedes most elements of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), an institution is required to release this information regardless of whether the institution includes this information in its FERPA “directory information” list.
The College may charge reeasonable and customary fees for fulfilling Solomon Amendment requests. In general, no fees are charged for emailed records, unless a specialized list or mode of fulfillment is required. Any special request fees will be assessed at the actual cost of the service.
