Sara Morrison has served on the Alumni Association of Nassau Community College Board of Directors since 2017. She has made education a priority in her life by receiving an A.S. from Nassau Community College in 1997, a BBA in 2001 from Hofstra University, and an MSW in 2005 from Adelphi University. She also is a graduate of the Parent Leadership Initiative (PLI) in 2018.
Sara is a dedicated mother raising her children in South Hempstead in Nassau County, NY. She is a long-time parent advocate whose accomplishments include championing for equity and access for children with disabilities. She is a member of the “State of Our District” committee for her local school district.
Sara volunteers for several local and national organizations. She serves as Senior Parent Leader for Choice for All, as co-chair of the Parent Action Council (PAC) of Choice for All, and as a member of the Board of the Child Care Council of Nassau County. She also sits on the Board of Directors for Child Care Council of Nassau County and on the Board of Directors for Prevent Child Abuse New York (PCANY). She is involved with the United Parents Leaders Action Network (UPLAN), which supports equity in child care, parent voices in education, and early education policy on a nation-wide scale. In 2019, Sara spoke at a press conference at the U.S. Capitol in support of UPLAN’s efforts. Sara also serves on the Family Partner/Engagement Task Force with the U.S. Department of Education representing UPLAN and Choice For All.
Sara has been a member of the national Coordinating Committee to the Family Math Roadmap Project, a partner of the Funders’ Group on Parent Organizing, Family Engagement, and Leadership Development, and a parent advisor to a grant program supporting state advocacy for young children with disabilities through the Partnership for America’s Children.
