Housed in the Department of Theatre and Dance, NCC’s Dance program takes education
beyond the walls of a classroom, into the studio, theatre and beyond. Our low student-to-faculty
ratio nourishes our commitment to academic excellence and enables individualized,
rigorous training that not only accelerates technical growth, but provides a venue
for students to explore their unique artistic voices. Dance majors study Ballet, various
Contemporary Modern techniques, Dance Composition/Improvisation, Dance History and
learn choreography in a variety of dance genres in the Rehearsal and Performance sequence.
Additional dance electives include Dance for Musical Theatre, Movement for the Actor,
and African American Dance Ensemble. Dance courses can be found on our Online Catalog.
NCC Dance majors have opportunities to perform in Main Stage featuring works by faculty
and student choreographers, musicals, and film/video projects. The schedule of classes
is crafted specifically to allow for rehearsals and/or teaching at local dance studios
in the late afternoons/evenings.
The Associate of Arts degree in Dance helps students define their individual voice
within our diverse dance community while preparing students for transfer to BA, BFA
or professional training programs and for lifelong careers in dance and related fields.
