The program is designed to provide academic and clinical education, which will prepare
graduates to assume the duties of a physical therapist assistant (PTA). PTA duties
may include delivering:
- therapeutic exercises to improve strength, endurance, coordination and range of motion
- pain relieving treatments such as heat, cold, ultrasound, traction and electrical
stimulation
- gait and balance training using exercises and devices such as walkers, canes and crutches
- manual procedures such as stretching and massage
- developmental activities for children
- training in activities of daily living, such as negotiating in the home and community
- measurements of patient’s range of motion or strength
- documentation of treatments
- patient education
