Admissions Requirements
Admission to the Surgical Technology Program
Admission to the Surgical Technology Program will be based upon prior academic performance, related experience, a personal interview, and scores on college placement exams.
- All candidates must be legally eligible for employment and certification in the United States at the time of application.
- Background checks and random drug testing are required upon acceptance.
- Accepted students must be able to complete the minimum 120 clinical cases requirement to graduate.
- Applicants must have a minimum 2.75 GPA.
- Meeting all the requirements does not guarantee acceptance.
It is strongly recommended that any science courses taken more than five years prior to program entry be repeated.
High School Students
Successful completion of the following high school units is required:
- Two years of Math, MATH A or Sequential Math I & II
- Two years science, including biology
- 75 average minimum in both areas
Current NCC Students
Admission is open to all qualified high school graduates, or holders of the General Equivalency Diploma. In the event a student does not meet the entrance requirements for Surgical Technology, he or she may enroll in Liberal Arts. College placement tests in English, math and reading must have been taken, and remedial courses completed, before entering the Surgical Technology program. Students must take a minimum of 16 credits before being considered for a change of area to Surgical Technology studies.
These credits should include:
- ENG 101, 100, 108
- SUNY GER Mathematics
- AHS 131
This does not guarantee acceptance into the Surgical Technology program. All prospective students will be evaluated and given equal consideration for a change of program.

Advanced Standing
Students with appropriate experience and credentials may take challenging exams to receive credits. Further information is available in the Department of Allied Health Sciences.
