At any time, students can email careercounseling@ncc.edu to schedule an appointment regarding their career counseling concerns. Our career counseling faculty will do their best to offer assistance in-person, or via e-mail, phone, or Zoom conferencing.

Career Development Courses

Earn credits toward your NCC degree while learning about career options and exploring professional opportunities.

Career Orientation, SPS 101–Earn One Credit

This is a transitional introductory career awareness course that assists the individual to learn from self-appraisal activities and career information gathering. Topics include: understanding one's interests, skills, work values and personality style as well as an investigation of career fields. View the official course description.

The course examines individual behavior in the social contexts of personal, family, work, and group backgrounds. Using extensive career development and psychological theories from a wide range of research, the course assists the individual to determine successful methods of self-assessment and exploration, resulting in the achievement of a broad perspective of the world of work. Social factors such as job market volatility, industry trends and environmental and technological needs are reviewed for successful career exploration and decision making. This course is intended for students who have already engaged in the career exploration process. Emphasis is placed on the world of work and survey of career fields, employer research, employment organizational structure, effective networking, targeted resume and cover letter development, interviewing skills, professional etiquette and self marketing strategies. This is a hands-on learning experience emphasizing the development of lifelong career management skills and tools. View the official course description.
