Education: Jessica received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education with a minor in Health Education in 2006 from Adelphi University and her Master of Arts Degree in Exercise Science in 2007 also from Adelphi University.

Additional Info: Jessica Marra joined the Health and Physical Education Department at NCC in 2007. In addition to her role as professor, Jessica is the acting Health Physical Education and Recreation Department Chairperson. She has also served as the Nassau Community College Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach from Spring 2008- 2014 and as the Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach from Fall 2007-2012. She currently holds a Level 1 Challange Course Practitioner Certification, First Aid, CPR and AED Certification as well as TRX Suspension Training Certification.

Education: Margaret received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and Health from Queens College and her Master of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology from Queens College. She also completed graduate coursework in Sport Management at Adelphi University.

Additional Info: Margaret Toomey joined the Health and Physical Education Department at NCC over 20 years ago. Before joining the Nassau Community College Physical Education faculty, she was an adjunct professor at Queens College and Queensborough Community College. In addition to her role as professor, Margaret was the Chairs Liaison from 2021 to 2024. She was the Head Coach for the Women’s and Men’s Tennis teams at NCC for nine seasons. She currently holds a Health and Physical Education teaching certifications in New York State, New York City Physical Education License, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, and American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR/AED.

Education: Judith received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from University at Albany in English and Sociology, Master of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies and Health from Stony Brook University and received her Doctor of Education Degree from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality.

Additional Info: Judith Steinhart joined the Health and Physical Education Department at NCC in 2016 and became a tenured assistant professor in 2022.  Judith’s prior teaching experience extends to Brooklyn College, Borough of Manhattan Community College, New York City Department of Education and Teachers College at Columbia University. In addition to her role as professor and advisor, she is the chair of the Health Studies Committee, a member of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness Committee. In addition, Judith is the Co-chair of the sub-committee for Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault Committee and also of the LGBTQ sub-committee. Judith holds licensures and certification in New York City Department of Education in Health and New York State Department of Education in English and Health.


Donna Bacon

Education: Donna received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 1994, her Master of Social Work Degree in 1996 from Adelphi University, she received a Master of Science Degree in Health Education in 2006 along with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Human Behavior Studies in 2007 from Columbia University, and her Doctor of Education Degree in Clinical Sexology from Modern Sex Therapy Institue in 2024.

Additional Info: Donna Bacon joined the Health and Physical Education Department at NCC in September 2002. One of her past roles at NCC included serving as the Chair of HPER Department from 2013 to 2016 and Health Studies Coordinator from 2017 to 2023. In 2022, Donna was awarded NCC Professor of the Year from the NCC Honors Program. Prior to Nassau Community College, Donna had extensive teaching experience across undergraduate, graduate and doctorate course levels. Her academic teaching experience extends to Columbia University in NY, Widener University in PA, Antioch University in WA, Alfred University, and LIU Post in NY. Beyond teaching, Donna is a private practice Therapist and has worked as a therapist for various organizations including Planned Parenthood, LIAAC, Island Medical Center and EAC. Donna holds various certifications including New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker (1996), NYS Certified Facilitator and Trainer for the Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect (2001), NYS Certified Facilitator and Trainer for School Violence and Intervention (2001), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (2010), Thanatology- Death, Dying and Bereavement Counseling (2013), Therapeutic Mindfulness Practices Techniques (2019), and Sex Therapy (2023).

Education: Kristine received her Associate of Science Degree in Liberal Arts from Sullivan County Community College in 1991, Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Administration from SUNY New Paltz in 1996 and her Master of Arts Degree in Physical Education from Adelphi University in 2003.

Additional Info: Kristine Abrams joined the Health and Physical Education Department at NCC in September 2008. Before Nassau Community College, she taught physical education as a full-time and adjunct faculty at Suffolk Community College Ammerman Campus and as an adjunct at Suffolk Community College Brentwood Campus from 2003-2008. In addition to her position in the HPER department, Kristine was the head coach for the NCC Women's Volleyball team from 2008 to 2024. She was also the Head Coach for the NCC Women’s basketball team from 2008-2017 and the head softball coach in 2018. In addition to coaching, Kristine served as the Physical Education Department Chair Liaison between 2018 and 2020. Kristine holds certifications in TRX Suspension Training, Yoga, Spin, CPR and AED.


Jamel Ramsay

Education: Jamel received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Broadcast Communications in 2007 from Long Island University and his Master of Science Degree in Sport Psychology and Sport Administration from Lockhaven University in 2016.

Additional Info: Jamel Ramsay joined the Health and Physical Education Department at NCC in Spring 2020. Before his current position, Jamel was an adjunct instructor for the college’s Health and Physical Education Department from 2017-2019. He also serves as the Physical Education Program Coordinator and Health and Physical Education Chair Liaison. Additionally, Jamel has been the acting Head Football Coach at NCC since 2017. He holds certifications in International Sport Sciences Association (ISSA), Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED, and National Sports Performance for Speed and Agility all held since 2008. Other certifications include Egoscue Method received in 2010 and TRX Suspension Training received in 2019.

Education: Al is a physical education alumni of Nassau Community College class of 1992. He received his Associate of Arts Degree in Physical Education from NCC, his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education in 1995 and Master of Science Degree in Physical Education in 1996 from Queens College.

Additional Info: Al Maddaluno joined the Health and Physical Education Department at NCC in 1996.  Prior to joining Nassau Community College as a professor, Al was a physical education teacher for North Merrick UFSD. He currently holds certifications as a Water Safety Instructor, CPR/BLS, AED, First Aid and Safety.

Education: Dean received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from St. John's University and his Master of Science Degree in Physical Education from Hofstra University in 2002.

Additional Info: Dean Karras joined the Health and Physical Education Department at NCC in 1998. He is also currently a member of the Board of Directors for the NEST, a campus resource which provides free groceries and personal care items to all NCC students and their families. Dean currently holds certifications as an American Red Cross Instructor in first aid, AED, and CPR for the adult, child and infant. He is also a licensed martial arts instructor.
