All applicants must be transferring to a four-year college
$1250 award for the English major with the highest GPA above 3.5. He/she must have taken Composition 1 and 2, as well as a minimum of three English electives. No application is required. Students may submit intention to be considered or be nominated by faculty member.
Award for a minority student majoring in General Liberal Arts or Sciences, with a GPA of at least 3.0. Requirements: written recommendation from a faculty member, application form, and 500-700 word essay. Applications are available in the English Department mailroom (Y 20).
$300 award (typical past amount) for a Liberal Arts student with an above average GPA and a record of participation in college activities and student clubs. Students must submit a resume or a copy of their transfer application with a list of college activities. (This scholarship was created many years ago by a former student as a tribute to the late Prof. Paul Doyle.)
$300 award (typical past amount) for a Liberal Arts student with an interest in English, excellent writing skills, a concern for social issues, and varied pursuits ranging from technology to art to foreign cultures. Students should submit a class essay composed within the last two years as a writing sample and a letter describing concerns and pursuits.
$400 (typical past amount) award for a Liberal Arts student with demonstrated interest in journalism (must have taken English 215) and above average GPA. Students should submit a letter describing interest in journalism.

$400 award for a creative writing student in good academic standing. Awardee must be nominated and recommended by a faculty member.
