Markenson Louis was recently chosen as SUNY Nassau's first EOP (Educational Opportunity
Program) ambassador, a program begun by SUNY that will mentor other students, create
a student support network of EOP students across the SUNY system, advise the Chancellor
on strengthening the program, and help inspire more students to seek opportunities
through EOP.
"I heard about the EOP program when Ms. Nelson from SUNY Nassau's EOP Office came
to my high school in 2020. My own experience in the program was great. I chose to
come to Nassau Community College because it was affordable and very close to my home.
As ambassador I hope I can inspire incoming first-year students that it's possible
to be successful no matter what your conditions are. I'm a criminal justice major.
Once I complete my education, I hope to become a parole officer."

I served in the United States Navy in Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, II and at Camp Pendleton with the 5th Marines. I was also deployed to Okinawa, Japan twice. Stateside, I knew that Nassau Community College has a reputation for being very military friendly, and when I got here, it was true.

"I served in the United States Navy in San Diego from 2014 to 2021, first on the USS Harpers Ferry and then on the USS Rushmore. When it was time for me to attend college, I chose NCC because it's veteran friendly and offers many different programs.
