Longtime metro-area radio personality Donna Donna says that WHPC made her dreams come true!
"When I graduated high school in the 70s, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, so I hit the road looking for inspiration. Little did I know I would find it in rock radio station WBCN in Boston. The jocks there played great music and were knowledgeable, passionate, irreverent and in a word COOL! Family circumstances brought me back to Long Island. Once at home, I searched my radio dial for a station that was as fun and cool as 'BCN. My search came up empty and that's when I began to daydream about being a DJ. I thought it was a pipe dream because I had no idea how one could even get themselves on the radio! I decided I should try to find a more 'practical' career.
I enrolled at NCC because the school offered so many different programs with affordable tuition, I hoped the College would help me find my path in life. I was taking different courses here and there until one day I was reading the student newspaper and saw an article about WHPC. I had no idea that the school had its own radio station! Still thinking that a career in radio was a longshot, I applied for a position and was accepted.
I'll never forget my first day: I was assigned to record one of WHPC's educational programs. The boss showed me how to set up the mics and use the tape recorder in the booth. I was nervous but everything went fine and the simple act of recording that show empowered me! I felt a rush of excitement and accomplishment and that's the moment when my 'pipe dream' turned into very real ambition. WHPC gave me the practical experience I needed and allowed me to find my ‘voice.’ I've worked virtually nonstop in professional radio in the metropolitan area for 45 years and my blessed career was kick started at NCC's WHPC. And for that I will always be grateful."

I served in the United States Navy in Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, II and at Camp Pendleton with the 5th Marines. I was also deployed to Okinawa, Japan twice. Stateside, I knew that Nassau Community College has a reputation for being very military friendly, and when I got here, it was true.
